- Bonding Strength:
Modified cement adhesive excels in terms of bonding strength due to its polymer-enriched composition. It offers excellent adhesion for a wide range of tile types and sizes and is particularly effective for areas with potential movement or vibration.
- Flexibility:
Modified adhesive is engineered to be more flexible, allowing it to absorb minor substrate movements. This makes it suitable for a broader range of substrates, including wood, drywall, and even heated floors.
- Water Resistance:
Modified adhesive often comes with improved resistance to water and moisture, reducing the risk of water damage to the substrate and tiles.
This makes it an excellent choice for wet areas and outdoor applications.
- Drying Time:
Modified adhesive usually has a quicker drying time, allowing for faster grouting and tile installation.
Traditional Cement Mortar
- Composition:
Traditional cement mortar, often referred to as “cementitious mortar,” is typically composed of Portland cement, sand, and water. It is a dry mix that needs to be combined with water on-site before use.
- Bonding Strength:
Cement mortar provides a good bond, especially when used for thick-bed applications. It is not ideal for large-format tiles and heavy stones. However, it may have limitations in terms of flexibility.
- Flexibility:
Traditional mortar is relatively rigid once it cures. This makes it less suitable for surfaces that may experience structural movement or temperature fluctuations, as it can lead to cracks in the tile or grout.
- Water Resistance:
Cement mortar can be prone to water infiltration over time, which can be problematic in wet areas such as bathrooms or kitchens. Additional waterproofing measures may be necessary.

Cement mortar typically requires a longer curing and drying period before grouting, which can slow down the tiling process.

Ceramic adhesive C1 is a standard adhesive composed of cement and sand. It is suitable for regular tile installations and is often used for ceramic tiles, porcelain tiles, and similar materials.
- Bonding Strength:
C1 adhesive offers good bonding strength, but it may have limitations when it comes to heavy or large tiles. It is best suited for standard tile installations with minimal stress.
- Flexibility:
C1 adhesive is relatively rigid and may not be suitable for surfaces that experience structural movement or temperature fluctuations.
- Water Resistance:
C1 adhesive may require additional waterproofing measures, as it may be prone to water infiltration over time.
